Taste of Chicago

Don’t miss the annual Taste of Chicago which runs from 25 June until 4 July, an entertainment and gastronomic extravaganza taking place at Grant Park. This event, now celebrating its 30th anniversary, will be featuring cooking celebrities Giada de Laurentiis and Mario Batali who will be making appearances at Dominick’s Cooking Corner. Hundreds of restaurants will be showcasing their expertise and event goers can sample their delights from 11 am to 9 pm daily (except Saturday, July 3: 11 am – 7 pm; Sunday, July 4: 11 am – 6 pm). Admission is free into the festival grounds and also to see musical concerts at the Petrillo Music Shell. Food and beverages are sold by tickets only. Tickets are sold in strips of 12 for US$8 at the festival, which includes a US$2 surcharge that contributes to event amenities including clean up, security and recycling.

Each vendor has the food prices posted on their booth. More than 200 different food items are available at the event with no food item costing more than 12 tickets. “Taste of” portions (smaller offerings of one of the restaurants menu items) are available for two to four tickets. Virginia’s Floyd Fandango Wine and Beer Fest, Blue Ridge Parkway

The Floyd Fandango markets itself as the coolest July 4th event in the region, held over the 3 and 4 July weekend, offering event-goers a glass or two (or three?) of their cold microbrew or a fine Virginia wine, set in 80 idyllic acres of lush green parkland. Covered tents house the Appalachian region’s award-winning wineries, giving everyone the chance to appreciate the wealth of winemaking skills in the region. Likewise, real ale lovers will be able to enjoy quality levels that show the mark of true craftsmanship in the field of beer making. Bite of Seattle

Billed as the “Northwest’s Premier Food Festival” and taking place from 16 – 18 July, 2010 this event takes place at the Seattle Center with free admission. Hours are from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m on Friday and Saturday and on Sunday from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Participants in this fun-filled family event include Tully’s Coffee and the chance to purchase their famous Bite of Seattle Tumbler, while special events include the Beringer Great Steak Challenge with special guests, The Deen Bothers as well as the Comcast “Canstruction” Challenge. The fourth annual Robert Mondavi Discover Wine Tour 2010 will feature wines from the Robert Mondavi Private Selection and Robert Mondavi Winery portfolios.
