Puttin on the Glitz

The Friends of Prep Committee of Cayman Prep and High School held its second “Puttin’ on the Glitz” fund-raising dinner and talent extravaganza at the Marriott Beach Resort at the end of last year.

The various performers made up of Prep School parents and staff provided wonderful entertainment and a wide variety of talent acts. Prep parents and seasoned performers Neil Rooney and Gary Cordes took home first place for their superb duet “O Sole Mio.” Second place went to the beautifully costumed Jamaican Folk Singers led by Prep School teacher Lorna Bailey. Third place went to Mark Whiteside, a Prep parent who during the dinner was cajoled by his friends into singing a Frank Sinatra song. One of the highlights of the evening was the final act by the High School staff which was their own special rendition of “Mamma Mia,” a musical comedy which starred Jean Bahadur, the Principal of the School. Mrs. Bahadur, who will soon be retiring, was clearly delighted to be the star of the show and deserved a send off like this from her dedicated staff.

The event also included a silent auction which featured beautiful mosaic pieces made by the Prep School students including plant stands, a bird bath and a garden bench to name just a few. This prompted a bidding frenzy by many enthusiastic parents.

The event raised much needed funds for the School and it also gave the parents and teachers the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful social get together. The teachers were also honoured and given kudos for all of their hard work.

Cayman Prep and High School wishes to thank the six corporate sponsors of this event for their generosity, namely, Tower Marketing, Conyers Dill & Pearman, Queensgate Bank, CUC, Jacques Scott and Vampt Motors.
