Sunny Cayman days and Argentine wine classics

All the latest from Tortuga’s monthly events that bring together the worlds of art, food and wine to showcase the best of all three.

Artist Mark Frazer recently featured at Tortuga’s recent ‘Art, Food & Wine Tasting’ event, bringing with him some of his bright and breezy, fresh and sunny art work that adorned the walls at Tortuga’s Governor’s Square location. Frazer’s simple depictions of every day Cayman scenes, with palm trees gently swaying and sail boats bobbing along don’t fail to uplift the spirits and remind us of why we live in such a beautiful, sunny location.

On the food and wine side, this latest tasting at Governors Square included Norton Wines from Argentina and appetisers from Azzuro, located in Buckingham Square on Seven
Mile Beach.

Barnaby Richardson, brands manager for the Tortuga Rum Company explains why Tortuga enjoy putting on these events, which take place on the last Thursday of every month: “Each tasting is a new opportunity to try different wines, enjoy delicious appetisers from a local restaurant, meet the artist and learn about their work,” he says. “Our expanded selection of Norton Wines was very well received and the turnout was excellent – well over 100 people enjoyed the experience throughout
the evening.

The No. 1 exported wine from Argentina, Norton offers an extensive selection of excellent yet affordable wines. In addition to the classics such as Malbec, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, Tortuga has added some lesser known wines sure to surprise and please the palate.

Barnaby explains: “The Norton Sangiovese is a new world winemakers’ twist on the Italian classic Chianti. The Torrontes is a well-balanced white that pairs nicely with Asian and spicy foods, and for a refreshing rose, Norton offers Mil Rosas. The Norton Bonarda is a red Piedmont grape that is now somewhat rare in its
native Italy.”

In particular, Barnaby is excited to be able to offer Norton wines at extremely affordable prices.

“With Norton wines now being distributed exclusively by Tortuga, we have been able to both reduce the price and offer our customers a greater variety. The range starts from $11.35 which is extremely affordable for this quality,” he says.
