Private banking clients with Butterfield are now able to secure top notch health benefits, thanks to the bank’s latest service in conjunction with Johns Hopkins Medicine International, the international arm of Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore. The Journal finds out more with a question and answer session with Chris Duggan, head of Private Banking.

Why did Butterfield decide to incorporate such a package for their private banking clients?

Sometimes in business, we neglect our health, especially when it comes to early detection and other preventive health measures.

When Butterfield had the opportunity to partner with Johns Hopkins Medicine International – to help facilitate the sharing of leading-edge medical research, knowledge and service with you, our clients – we were more than happy. This is not a Butterfield health care service, but rather it is a portal of information and a central contact function, which directly links our private banking clients to a global leader in medicine. It is an added benefit to the Private Banking suite of services. Registration or sign-up isn’t required – all clients need to do is read the information and use what services apply to them.

Health Plus is a new service – offered jointly with Johns Hopkins Medicine International – exclusively to Butterfield Private Banking clients.

Do clients have to pay 
or is it a free perk?

All service assistance, on-island seminars and news updates are gratuitous; however, charges will apply for health appointments, and hotel accommodations. All charges will be reviewed with each client upon initial contact.

Through this service, Johns Hopkins Medicine International provides a variety of complimentary benefits to Butterfield Private Banking clients, such as dedicated medical information services, a toll-free line to reach a Johns Hopkins care coordinator, remote medical second opinions and much more.

In addition, our clients will also have access to concierge services, a relaxing executive lounge when visiting the hospital and referral to premium accommodations.

What type of checkup can they expect? How thorough is it?

Your Health Plus comprehensive physical is designed to deliver personalised, preventive strategies to maintain and improve health — all tailored to meet the needs of Butterfield Private Banking clients and their families. This comprehensive exam is scheduled for a single day, with a possible second day if additional tests are required.

Is it an annual programme?

The Health Plus service offering to our Private Banking clients is continuous throughout the year; however, special events/seminars – such as the launch event at The Ritz-Carlton late last year featuring medical experts from Johns Hopkins – is planned for three times a year in Cayman, with the next one slated for March 2011. Butterfield will host these invitation-only events, which will feature various health and wellness talks by physicians and staff from globally-recognised Johns Hopkins Medicine.

What benefit does Butterfield derive from the programme?

The client, not Butterfield as a whole, directly benefits from this programme.
