Taking care of business – and staff

Deloitte earned itself fifth place in this year’s Top Employer of the Year awards held earlier this year organised by the Cayman Islands Society for Human Resource Professionals. Employees speak with The Journal to explain why they believe Deloitte is such a great place to work.

Opening in Cayman in 1973, Deloitte is a dynamic and fast-growing firm and now has around 175 employees with 25 female employees in management positions and 16 Caymanians in management positions.

“We are extremely honoured to receive the award, as a top five employer in the Cayman Islands, from the CISHRP,” Partner Jeremy Smith says. “In recent years we have made a significant investment in programmes to benefit our people and wider community. Through these investments we feel that we are advancing on our goal to be an employer of choice in Cayman, where we provide an environment that allows our people and firm to excel in the workplace and the community.”

CPA Michael Diamond says: “The environment and people is what makes Deloitte a great place to work and is the main reason, amongst numerous other reasons, why I like working at Deloitte. I know this is a cliché response but it is the truth. Deloitte attracts intelligent, hard working individuals who are committed to exceptional client service. There is an open door policy from the bottom up to the top which loosens up the working environment and nurtures a sense of reward. Deloitte provides unlimited opportunities to learn and challenge yourself which results in career enhancement. Overall, substantially all the people that work at Deloitte are not only my co-workers but are also my friends.”

Bernadette Myles is a senior accountant with the firm. She says that Deloitte is a great place to work because of their dedication to encouraging higher learning.

“The firm offers many learning opportunities available to all staff, all year around; it’s definitely a great place to launch your career. I personally like working for Deloitte because of the people, it is a great place to network and meet people of different cultures,” she explains.

Karie Bergstrom, Director of Human Resources and Consulting furthers: “As a professional services firm in the Cayman Islands and globally, Deloitte prides itself in taking exceptional care of our people so our people can provide excellent service to our clients. We provide our team members with great benefits, training, support and variety and we believe it is also important to support and care for the community in which we live. Having these efforts recognised by the CISHRP Top Employer award is a great achievement, one we are all proud of.”
