Visit Papagallo’s for a tasty bite

The gracious and welcoming presence of Ristorante Papagallo awaits those who visit West Bay’s Barker’s area, an oasis of fine Italian dining nestled among the most peaceful and serene setting of wetlands on Cayman’s coastline.

Split into three spacious and well appointed dining areas, Papagallo’s caters for all, from large groups and parties who want to take over an entire room to couples and families looking for a delightful place in which to enjoy each other’s company as well as the consistently delicious cuisine.

Vico Testori is the restaurant’s owner/manager and says that Papagallo’s serves a multitude of purposes for his guests: “We recently welcomed a large group from Cayman Hospice who were able to customise an entire room for themselves. They had a great time and we enjoyed serving the community in this way,” he says. “At the same time our other rooms were open for business and we were able to welcome guests in much smaller groups without them even being aware that we were also hosting a large party.”

Fine dining Italian cuisine is about as good as it gets at Papagallo’s, with pasta, fish, risotto and meat dishes all given the loving Italian touch by the restaurant’s executive Chef Steve Wagner and his team.

For summer the team have devised an exciting new twist to the proceedings: Papagallo’s very own tapas menu, called Stuzzichini (meaning “little snack” in Italian).

“We are running this menu over the weekend on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from June and we encourage everyone to come by and choose some plates from twelve items that we have on our menu, all really reasonably priced from between CI6 to CI$8 per plate,” Vico states. “We are also offering four choices for CI$20 and wine pairings to match.”

Vico says he introduced the Stuzzichini menu to cater for the trend that has developed towards a lighter bite and the sharing of flavours and dishes in a convivial atmosphere.

“I want people to imagine they are sitting out on St Mark’s Square in Venice while they nibble away perhaps on some delicious prosciutto or perhaps some stuffed olives or fried cheese!” he says.

Specials during the week include a magnificent Surf and Turf, a hearty Italian Tuscan grill and a succulent seafood grill, so diners can enjoy a special occasion whenever they visit.   

“Diners can come and enjoy a casual bite at the bar or in the restaurant and while away the time soaking up the stunning views and enjoying the company of friends and family at this most delightful of venues,” Vico adds.
