Condo vacations over hotel stays

CITE 2009: Upping the tourism ante

Seven condo and villa properties joined forces at the CITE to showcase en masse the highlights of condo/villa rental for vacationers verses hotel-style vacations.

Representatives from The Islands Club, Casa Caribe, The Cayman Club, Caribbean Club, the Christopher Columbus, Cayman Villas and The Grandview were all keen to talk to delegates about their unique properties.

And with the Department of Tourism joining forces with the private sector in pushing ‘Staycations’ this year (i.e. offering discounts to residents taking vacations on-island as opposed to venturing overseas), there has never been a better time to peruse the many condos that offer daily and weekly rentals to locals.

Touring The Islands Club, it is immediately apparent that condo-style vacations are at a less frenetic pace than hotel stays. For one thing, there are far fewer guests to contend with (The Islands Club only has 26 apartments in total.) Thus the overcrowding and competing for attention that you may sometimes experience in hotels is non-existent. Personal service is second to none. Receive your key from the warm and friendly staff and then enter your grandly spacious apartment that has been kitted out to your specifications. A huge fruit basket generally awaits guests and if you pre-requested a fridge-full of groceries the staff will have been happy to oblige.

A home-away-from-home (but perhaps on a much grander scale!) the condo is duly stocked with pretty much every amenity you can want. Full sets of crockery, cutlery, linens, bedding, towels, kitchen equipment (coffee maker, blender for those all important cocktails on the beach! etc) await and there is even a great selection of books, games and DVDs to amuse you, should the three televisions not provide enough entertainment (one in the master bedroom, one in the second bedroom and one in the spacious entertainment room). Sitting out on The Islands Club’s huge patio overlooking the glinting Caribbean Sea, I would suggest the best entertainment of all is simply people watching.

Condo vacationing is the true means to properly chill out, soak up the Caribbean and all its wonderful charms.
