Hosted by The Camera Store in The Waterfront Centre on Harbour Drive, George Town, the Cayman Islands Photography Club has gained new momentum in recent months with a monthly competition for club members to stretch themselves creatively.
October’s winner – Chris Court
Having been a dabbler in 35mm film photography on and off for years, in 2006 I found myself packing for a Pacific crossing aboard a 46 foot yacht, and so bought myself a Nikon D200 to record some of the amazing sights I was bound to see along the way.
Since then, I’ve found myself drawn into the hobby and discovered the satisfaction that photography can bring. Far more than merely recording images, it forces me to look at my surroundings with a more critical eye, seeking details and subtleties of lighting that would have gone unnoticed before. Anything that forces me to slow down and appreciate the world around me is a good thing in my book.
The Cayman Islands Photography Club currently meets the second Wednesday of every month, at 7:00pm, at the Camera Store. Everyone is invited. Call 945 4551 for more information.
