Lund Report: Best kept secret

One of the fastest developing waterway communities also happens to be one of the most unknown – Salt Creek.

Until recently, this quiet and extremely private neighbourhood of canal front home sites and developing residences was a bit of a mystery, and was overlooked by many Grand Cayman residents considering waterfront communities to buy a lot and build their home. Now, with sales momentum building and the area starting to establish itself, word is finally starting to get out about this new and quite different place.

The exclusive Salt Creek residential community is located in the area also previously known as Salt Creek, on the northern perimeter of the Cayman Islands Yacht Club. It has some unique historical significance from being home to the original turtle farm and over the years, a safe harbour. This is a small cove that naturally juts in from the North Sound and Caribbean Sea, featuring a relaxed setting of lush indigenous plants and trees.

The saving grace of the location is that you are in the heart of Seven Mile Beach, yet by the vistas from your property, it feels more like you are living within a garden estate in some remote location, with water all around you and dark green mangroves off in the distance. Many other waterway developments have tried to create this feel, but stopped short on the details.

It is these details that make all the difference – each lot has a majestic and private view over scenic waterways; landscaping is flourishing from the water’s edge throughout the community; utilities and fibre optics are underground; tree lined footpaths lead to the park and playground; trails and walkways and open spaces are combined with an abundance of landscaping. Being a subsidiary of Dart Realty (Cayman) Ltd., you already know from their other developments and parks that they are a landscaping genius. Salt Creek certainly epitomizes this understanding and reverence with nature.

Another important element to the rising popularity of this community is the safety. Children can play outside on their lawns, or the paths, or ride their bikes in the streets without worry. This gated community of neighbours is limited to only 23 home sites in total.

While intimate in size, it is one of the most comprehensive recreational communities in Grand Cayman, perfect for any active lifestyle. Residents can choose from a game of tennis, playing with their children in the park, jogging along any of the paths, boating from your own dock, or just walking around the neighbourhood. All of this is available, just outside your door.

To date, 10 lots have been sold, with one under contract and another one reserved. Five houses have now been completed. Four homes are being designed and planned to start construction, next year. Eleven generously sized, filled lots are still available for sale and prices range from US$405,000 to US$775,000. There are architectural standards and guidelines to ensure the quality of construction, landscaping, and other improvements.

Salt Creek will not be available for much longer. At its present pace of sales and construction, the community will be completed in the next few years. For anyone searching for a neighbourhood on the water where their family can live and grow, Salt Creek should definitely be on your list of choices.
